Empowering Rural Communities: Transforming Waste into Sustainable Energy
Key Ideas
  • Developing a waste-to-energy system to convert solid recovery fuel into hydrogen-driven electricity for rural areas.
  • Utilizing plasma-assisted gasification and hydrogen purification for efficient energy generation.
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration with experts from engineering, environmental science, and social sciences.
  • Aligning project objectives with global sustainability discussions and promoting universal access to clean energy.
The research project focuses on addressing waste management and energy access challenges in rural areas through the development of a sustainable Waste-to-Energy system. With the rise in waste generation due to urbanization and population growth, traditional methods are deemed insufficient and harmful to the environment. The project aims to convert solid recovery fuel into hydrogen-driven electricity, specifically tailored for rural settings. It involves a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating waste composition studies, technological advancements in hydrogen production via plasma-assisted gasification, and assessments of environmental and socio-economic impacts. Collaborations with various disciplines and external stakeholders ensure a holistic understanding and practical insights. The primary goal is to create a technologically robust and environmentally friendly system that addresses both waste management and energy access challenges. With support from the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), the project fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and aligns with sustainability discussions, emphasizing the role of academic institutions in tackling global challenges. By promoting shared responsibility and collective action, the project aims to contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future.
