The European Commission is investing over €250 million in grants from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to support 21 hydrogen infrastructure development studies aimed at decarbonizing industries within the European Union (EU). This funding is designed to alleviate investment risks in the hydrogen market and complement the existing hydrogen policy framework. The grants will benefit projects across various EU countries, such as the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor and the H2Med Corridor, promoting hydrogen economy development and supporting EU climate targets. Gas transmission system operators from Nordic and Baltic countries have also initiated feasibility studies for the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor to explore cross-border cost allocation principles. The EU's support for hydrogen projects is part of a larger €1.2 billion program to boost cross-border energy infrastructure projects, including hydrogen, electricity grids, and CO2 infrastructure. This initiative aims to enhance Europe's competitiveness, integrate energy markets, and decarbonize the energy system, in line with EU goals. Commissioner Jørgensen emphasizes the importance of these grants in advancing the Energy Union and contributing to decarbonization efforts. The grants will be finalized through the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, with a new call for energy infrastructure proposals planned for 2025.
