EU Invests €4.8bn in Clean Hydrogen Projects and Electrolyser Manufacturing
Key Ideas
- European Innovation Fund allocates €4.8bn to support 85 Net Zero projects, including clean hydrogen production and electrolyser manufacturing.
- Four green hydrogen projects across Belgium, Germany, France, and Finland, as well as additional electrolyser manufacturers, receive funding.
- The projects aim to produce a total of 61,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, contributing to a climate-neutral and competitive Europe.
- Several electrolyser manufacturers, like Nel, HydrogenPro, and Advent Technologies, secure funding to scale up their production capacities.
The European Union is investing €4.8bn through its Innovation Fund to support clean hydrogen projects and electrolyser manufacturing. This initiative, funded by the emissions trading scheme (ETS) revenues, aims to reduce emissions and build a climate-neutral Europe. The funding will benefit six clean hydrogen production projects and eight electrolyser manufacturing firms across Europe. Projects include green hydrogen production in Belgium, Germany, France, and Finland, along with electrolyser plants to support these initiatives. These efforts are expected to generate 61,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. Additionally, eight electrolyser manufacturers, such as Nel and HydrogenPro, have secured grants to expand their production capabilities. This funding will enable the scaling up of manufacturing processes for various types of electrolyser technologies, contributing to the growth of renewable energy infrastructure in Europe.
