European Network of Network Operators of Hydrogen (ENNOH) Set to Become Reality by 2025
Key Ideas
  • Agreement among future Hydrogen Transmission Network Operators (HTNOs) on draft rules brings ENNOH closer to establishment in 2025.
  • EU Commissioner for Energy emphasizes the crucial role of ENNOH in European hydrogen infrastructure development and market efficiency.
  • Draft documents to be evaluated by the Commission and Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) for final approval by spring 2025.
  • ENNOH's contribution outlined in facilitating consistent methodologies, establishing harmonised technical rules, and ensuring efficient and safe hydrogen system operation.
The establishment of the European Network of Network Operators of Hydrogen (ENNOH) by 2025 has taken a significant step forward with the agreement reached among future Hydrogen Transmission Network Operators (HTNOs) on draft rules necessary for its creation. The EU Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, highlighted the pivotal role ENNOH will play in developing a European hydrogen infrastructure, focusing on efficient market operations. The draft documents, including Articles of Association, Rules of Procedures, and List of Members, are set to be evaluated by the Commission and the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) for final approval by spring 2025. Under the TEN-E Regulation, ENNOH will contribute to the 2026 hydrogen Ten Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) by harmonising technical and operational rules for an interconnected hydrogen system. This will ensure efficiency and safety, especially considering varying progress among EU countries in hydrogen infrastructure projects. ENNOH's role will be vital in facilitating a consistent approach to hydrogen networks and addressing market needs, as outlined in the Hydrogen and Gas Markets Decarbonisation Package, which sets the stage for a greener energy future.
