Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1992, the UAE and Azerbaijan have advanced their partnership from economic interests to a focus on renewable energy and climate initiatives. The initial relationship centered around sectors like tourism, real estate, finance, and infrastructure, leading to mutual investments and increased trade. Over time, the collaboration expanded to include renewable energy projects, reflecting both countries' commitment to sustainable development. The UAE and Azerbaijan's leadership roles in climate initiatives, as hosts of COP28 and COP29, showcase their global commitment to environmental action. Notably, the UAE's renewable energy company, Masdar, partnered with Azerbaijan's SOCAR to develop various projects, such as the Garadagh Solar Power Plant, contributing significantly to Azerbaijan's energy transition. These efforts align with Azerbaijan's goal of sourcing 30% of its energy from renewables by 2030. The recent announcement of a 5 GW renewable energy project in Azerbaijan, including green hydrogen production, further solidifies the collaboration between the UAE and Azerbaijan in the renewable energy sector, emphasizing the potential for strategic investments to drive environmental benefits.
