GAIL (India) Limited and Accelera by Cummins have teamed up to advance clean energy initiatives in India, with a special focus on hydrogen-related projects. The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two entities during India Energy Week 2025 in New Delhi aims to accelerate the country's transition towards sustainable energy solutions. GAIL, a major PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, intends to utilize its existing natural gas infrastructure in collaboration with Cummins' expertise in hydrogen technologies. This partnership will explore the incorporation of hydrogen into current energy networks, including natural gas pipelines, for applications in transport, power generation, and industrial processes. GAIL has already initiated green hydrogen initiatives, such as a 10 MW unit at its Vijaipur plant and pilot programs for hydrogen blending in city gas distribution networks. Additionally, GAIL is diversifying its clean energy portfolio with projects like compressed biogas plants, ethanol production facilities, and collaborations for synthetic natural gas production. These efforts align with India's clean energy objectives, emphasizing the development of hydrogen-based infrastructure and the integration of sustainable technologies into the national energy landscape.
