GAZ-SYSTEM Survey Reveals Potential of Hydrogen Market Growth in Poland
Key Ideas
- Survey data indicates a significant increase in hydrogen production and consumption in Poland post-2030, with the highest concentration of production in North-West Poland.
- Challenges include the need for increased domestic production or imports to meet potential demand, and barriers such as the lack of transmission infrastructure and limited cooperation between producers and consumers.
- GAZ-SYSTEM plans initiatives to integrate hydrogen market participants, develop the National Hydrogen Network, and conduct feasibility studies for hydrogen transmission infrastructure.
- Survey results highlight the importance of the development and routing of a hydrogen transmission network in Poland for decision-making on hydrogen projects by respondents.
GAZ-SYSTEM conducted a survey on the Hydrogen Map of Poland to assess the potential of the future hydrogen market in the country. The study aimed to gather data on the estimated production and consumption of hydrogen, with a focus on regional concentration by province. Findings indicate a projected surge in hydrogen production post-2030, with stability expected at 1.11 million tons per year after 2040. Consumption figures also show an upward trend, with the highest demand in central and south-west regions. However, a comparison reveals a potential shortage of domestic production relative to demand, indicating a need for increased production or imports. Challenges to market development include the lack of transmission infrastructure and limited cooperation between producers and consumers. GAZ-SYSTEM plans to address these barriers by integrating market participants, developing the National Hydrogen Network, and conducting feasibility studies for transmission infrastructure. The survey results, based on 64 questionnaires covering 199 projects, demonstrate the importance of a hydrogen transmission network for decision-making on future projects.
