The UK government has announced the allocation of £2.3bn for green hydrogen projects, with the Bradford Low Carbon Hydrogen project set to receive the largest share. This initiative includes a total of 11 green hydrogen projects across Great Britain, with a combined capacity of 125MW. The funding aims to support the development of renewable hydrogen energy by bridging the cost gap with market prices over the next 15 years, stimulating production and demand. The Bradford project, led by Hygen Energy and N-Gen with the support of the council, is expected to bring significant economic benefits, generating £120m for the local economy and creating up to 125 new jobs. The project will be located at Birkshall Gas Works in Bradford and will have the capacity to produce 12.5 tonnes of hydrogen per day, with facilities for production, storage, dispensing, and refuelling. Local leaders, including Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe and Tracy Brabin, have expressed their support for the project, highlighting its importance in helping Bradford achieve its climate change goals and stimulate economic growth.
