Green Cat Hydrogen (GCH) is embarking on a green hydrogen project near Annan, southern Scotland, aiming to create 50 high-skilled jobs and facilitate the decarbonization of local businesses. This initiative, located at the former nuclear power station site Chapelcross, seeks to establish a 'green energy hub' supported by both Scottish and UK government funding. By utilizing renewable energy to produce green hydrogen, GCH plans to mitigate carbon dioxide emissions by 26,000 tonnes annually, equivalent to planting 20,000 hectares of forest. The project, currently in its preliminary stages with engineering and environmental studies underway, envisions an annual production of over 4,000 tonnes of green hydrogen. GCH is dedicated to community engagement, evident through planned public consultation events, with the first scheduled for April 1 at Creca Village Hall. Chief Executive Gavin Catto emphasized the company's commitment to local stakeholders and expressed aspirations for a fruitful partnership in driving green technology development. The initiative has garnered support from Jane Morrison-Ross, the chief executive at South of Scotland Enterprise, who praised GCH's involvement at Chapelcross and highlighted the region's potential for energy innovation. Encouraging community participation in the project's progression, she emphasized the significance of investing in the southern region of Scotland.
