The HyFive project, led by White Summit Capital, is set to transform decarbonization efforts in Asturias, Spain, with the establishment of the Musel GreenMet plant in Gijon. This initiative, supported by the H2 Pioneros program and EU funding, will kick off construction in 2025 and commence operations by 2027. The plant's innovative approach includes an initial electrolysis capacity of 50 MW, producing e-methanol and aiming to scale up to 100 MW in the future. By utilizing green hydrogen and capturing CO2 from nearby industries, the project targets a significant reduction of 175,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. Additionally, the initiative is expected to create numerous job opportunities, with up to 500 jobs in the construction phase and 160 jobs once operational. Gonzalo López Medina highlighted the importance of collaboration with local stakeholders for the project's success. The strategic location of the plant in the port of Gijon not only facilitates local employment but also aligns with the EU's decarbonization objectives and the development of green mobility solutions. As part of HyFive's broader portfolio, the Musel GreenMet project exemplifies a commitment to sustainable practices and the accelerated transition to renewable energy sources.
