Green Navy's Prometeo: Brittany's Hydrogen-Powered Passenger Vessel
Key Ideas
- Brittany Region grants EUR 1.5 million subsidy to Green Navy for Prometeo hydrogen-powered catamaran project.
- Prometeo features optimized electric propulsion, hydrogen storage tanks, and emission-free operation.
- Green Navy plans to offer Prometeo for bare-boat charter and potential sale to shipowners or public authorities for various transport needs.
- The project aligns with Brittany's roadmap for renewable hydrogen deployment and aims to provide a sustainable maritime transport solution.
Green Navy, in partnership with the Vallair Group, has received a EUR 1.5 million subsidy from France's Brittany Region for its Prometeo hydrogen-powered passenger vessel project. Located in La Forêt-Fouesnant, Brittany, Green Navy is developing a zero-emission catamaran equipped with optimized electric propulsion and hydrogen storage tanks. Prometeo will offer bare-boat charter services and could be sold to shipowners or public authorities for different transport purposes. The vessel's propulsion system utilizes high-efficiency electric motors, propellers, buffer storage batteries, and fuel cells that combine oxygen and hydrogen for energy. Green Navy's CEO, Charles Cardi, highlights the emission-free, quiet, and efficient operation of Prometeo, emphasizing its longer range and reduced docking times. The project aims to contribute to Brittany's renewable hydrogen deployment roadmap, offering a sustainable maritime transport solution. Green Navy plans to test the vessel in real-world conditions to provide valuable insights for future hydrogen-fuel projects in the region.
