HD Hyundai Infracore Co., a prominent construction equipment and engine manufacturer in South Korea, has secured a significant government project aimed at developing generators that utilize hydrogen to generate electricity. The project, led by the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning, will see an investment of 14 trillion won ($1 billion) until June 2027 to create generators with 500 kWe capacity powered solely by hydrogen. Additionally, HD Hyundai is working on a 200 kWe hydrogen combustion engine generator for commercial vehicles, undergoing testing for potential mass production by the end of 2025. The company's initiatives extend to recycling waste heat from generators and exploring the use of both hydrogen and ammonia as fuel sources. Collaborations with power utilities, such as Korea East-West Power Co., Korea Western Power Co., and Pyeongtaek City Corp., will support the demonstration of this technology at hydrogen supply facilities. Furthermore, HD Hyundai plans to develop hydrogen engines for emergency power systems, renewable energy setups, and data center electricity supply. The global market for hydrogen generators is on a growth trajectory, with projections indicating a substantial increase to $257.9 billion by 2028. HD Hyundai will be showcasing prototypes of its hydrogen engine and generator at H2 MEET, a prominent event in South Korea's hydrogen industry, underscoring the company's commitment to innovation and renewable energy technology.
