Hydrogen de France (HDF Energy), a prominent French energy company, has opened its inaugural fuel cell factory in Bordeaux, France. This move sets the stage for the development of 'green' hydrogen production facilities in Vietnam and other countries in the future. Tran Khanh Viet Dung, Director of HDF Vietnam, highlighted the company's collaborations with various Vietnamese authorities and entities to drive renewable energy projects in regions like Kien Giang, Binh Thuan, and Ninh Thuan, known for their renewable energy potential. The focus is on generating green hydrogen for the transportation sector. HDF Energy is actively engaged in converting old diesel-fueled locomotives to use hydrogen, aligning with Vietnam's net-zero emissions strategy. By partnering with Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), HDF Energy aims to implement renewable energy and hydrogen gas projects in Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region. The company also aspires to advance its cooperation with Vietnam in the electricity and transportation sectors, with support from the Just Energy Transition Partnership and financial institutions like the French Development Agency (AFD). Mathieu Geze, HDF Energy's Executive Director for Asia, expressed the company's commitment to supporting Vietnam's carbon emission reduction efforts. The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Nouvelle Aquitaine, Jean-François Clédel, emphasized the potential for collaboration between Nouvelle Aquitaine and Vietnam in the renewable energy sector.
