Hubei Province in China has unveiled an ambitious draft plan to accelerate the development of its hydrogen industry by 2027. The province aims to double the size of its hydrogen industry by that time, targeting an output value of 100 billion yuan ($13.7 billion). The plan focuses on promoting technological advancements, enhancing industrial and supply chains, and establishing a hydrogen storage and transportation network. Wuhan is designated as the core of Hubei's hydrogen industry, with plans to create a national hydrogen equipment center focusing on electrolysers and fuel cells and promoting renewable hydrogen technologies like biomass-based production. The province intends to explore pilot projects for hydrogen-blended and pure hydrogen pipelines, prioritize the construction of hydrogen refueling stations, and provide subsidies for transportation-related projects. Hubei also offers subsidies for technology centers, research labs, and major projects to support innovation in the hydrogen sector. Additionally, the province plans to support fuel cell component manufacturers, promote fuel cell adoption in various applications, establish a hydrogen energy industry alliance, and encourage the collaboration of stakeholders in setting industry standards.
