Hy2gen USA and Ocean Connect Energy Partner to Explore Offshore Wind-Powered Hydrogen Production
Key Ideas
  • Hy2gen USA and Ocean Connect Energy have signed an MOU to investigate renewable hydrogen production powered by offshore wind.
  • The partnership aims to identify high-capacity offshore wind areas to overcome grid transmission constraints and low electricity demand.
  • The collaboration seeks to leverage proximity to offshore wind generation for efficient green hydrogen production, reducing infrastructure needs.
Hy2gen USA, a subsidiary of Hy2gen, and Ocean Connect Energy (OCE) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly explore the use of offshore wind to power renewable hydrogen production. The agreement tasks both companies with locating suitable areas to facilitate Hy2gen's production of renewable hydrogen and e-fuel using OCE's utility-scale offshore wind resources. A ten-month working group has been established to identify and develop high-capacity offshore wind locations, particularly where grid transmission challenges and low electricity demand hinder project advancement. David White, the president of Hy2gen USA, highlighted the benefits of situating green hydrogen production facilities near offshore wind energy points of interconnect. This strategy aims to create a consistent demand for green energy, thereby reducing the urgency for new grid transmission infrastructure and lowering the required investment in additional infrastructure. Ultimately, this collaboration between Hy2gen USA and Ocean Connect Energy is expected to streamline the execution of offshore wind energy projects while promoting sustainable hydrogen production.
