The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has received a landmark annual grant of Rs 700 crore for research and development in the upcoming fiscal year, marking a significant increase from the previous years. The institute's efforts are focused on aligning their R&D initiatives with India's goal of achieving technological self-reliance. With a combination of funding from government and private agencies, IIT Bombay has set up multidisciplinary research centers to tackle complex challenges holistically. These efforts involve students and faculty members across various academic areas like science, engineering, design, management, and humanities. Projects range from short-term consulting to long-term sponsored research, with a primary duration of 2-5 years. Noteworthy projects include the Maharashtra Drone Mission and developing hydrogen pressure vessel manufacturing using textile-based composites for the Ministry of Textiles. IIT Bombay's outstanding contributions have earned it a position among the top 150 universities globally and the top three in national rankings, emphasizing its commitment to driving innovation, knowledge generation, and technological self-sufficiency for India.
