Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, emphasized India's leading role in the global green revolution, particularly in the field of renewable energy and green hydrogen. During a visit to a floating solar plant at Omkareshwar Dam in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district, the minister announced the government's issuance of a tender for the world's largest green ammonia demonstration project. He highlighted the revolutionary developments in solar energy, positioning India as a frontrunner in renewable energy innovation.
Joshi outlined the importance of energy storage projects in the renewable energy sector, citing factors such as increased green capacity, supportive policies, financial incentives, and decreasing battery prices. India is actively working on battery energy and pumped hydro storage policies with the aim of becoming a market leader in the energy storage sector by 2032.
The minister showcased the success of the Omkareshwar Dam solar plant, which generates 278 megawatts of power, providing electricity to the Delhi Metro. Joshi expressed the need to replicate this model across the country to achieve the target of 500 gigawatts of non-fossil energy by 2030 and 1800 gigawatts by 2047.
