A significant development in India's drive towards sustainable industrial practices, a consortium spearheaded by Gensol Engineering Limited and Matrix Gas & Renewables has clinched the contract to construct the country's premier green hydrogen-powered steel facility. Valued at ₹321 crore, with half of the investment subsidized by the Indian government, the project marks a crucial step in the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The plant, part of a triad of pilot ventures under the mission, is designed to generate 50 tons of steel daily through the utilization of green hydrogen, employing direct reduced iron (DRI) vertical shaft technology. By substituting conventional fossil fuels with green hydrogen, the process will effectively eliminate CO₂ emissions, significantly aiding in the reduction of carbon footprints. Collaborating with IIT Bhubaneswar and Metsol AB from Sweden, Matrix Gas & Renewables will oversee the project's execution from land procurement to operational commencement, with intentions to set a precedent for similar green initiatives in regions like Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Leveraging their proficiency in renewable energy and EPC services, Gensol Engineering is poised to play a pivotal role in ensuring the project's triumph, aligning with India's overarching vision for sustainable steel production and substantial carbon emissions abatement in the industrial domain.
