Hampshire-based engineering firm, Barnbrook Systems Ltd, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Protium to enhance safety measures for green hydrogen. The collaboration, unveiled at the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow, will focus on leveraging remote sensing technology to monitor safety aspects during the UK's transition to cleaner energy sources. One of the key innovations introduced by Barnbrook is the BlueDot remote-sensing gadget, designed to provide real-time data on pressure, temperature, and humidity for each hydrogen canister. This technology ensures the safe handling of hydrogen from production to deployment, with a particular emphasis on the Pioneer 1 hydrogen production facility in South Wales. Protium, the green hydrogen company, is set to expand its operations by opening a second hydrogen production facility in Wales, equipped with a larger electrolyser to significantly increase green hydrogen production. The collaboration between Barnbrook and Protium reflects a shared commitment to advancing the use of green hydrogen and promoting safety in the energy sector. Andrew Barnett, managing director of Barnbrook Systems, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the potential of green hydrogen to drive the UK towards its net-zero emissions goal by 2050. Jon Constable, Protium's chief operating officer, emphasized the importance of digital technologies like BlueDot in ensuring safety and operational efficiency in hydrogen plants.
