- The project aims to connect industrial zones in East London to a hydrogen supply, supporting decarbonisation across various industries.
- The Pre-FEED phase will result in a comprehensive report guiding the project towards the full FEED phase for final engineering designs.
- The initiative is praised for its potential to contribute significantly to the UK's hydrogen infrastructure and clean energy goals.
Capital Hydrogen has announced the appointment of Jacobs as the lead contractor for the Pre-Front End Engineering Design (Pre-FEED) phase of Cadent's East London Hydrogen Pipeline project. The initiative, part of the Capital Hydrogen program along with Cadent, National Gas, and SGN, aims to connect industrial zones in East London to a hydrogen supply to decarbonize industries like food and drink, construction materials, manufacturing, transport, and power generation. The project will produce a comprehensive Pre-FEED report to guide the next phase. Cadent's strategic goal is to secure a reliable hydrogen supply for industrial customers along the proposed route, supporting their transition to a net-zero future and ensuring the long-term viability of major employers in the region. Jacobs, as the Pre-FEED consultant, will work on innovative hydrogen solutions to propel the decarbonization project forward. With a project charter signed, key subcontractors like Apollo, ERM, and United Living will provide specialized services for pipeline design, process safety inputs, and constructability advice. The project targets 18 potential users with an estimated hydrogen demand of up to 5060 GWh by 2035, surpassing current production estimates. Upon completing the Pre-FEED, the project will move to the full FEED phase for final engineering designs, aligning with the UK's net-zero targets and benefiting the community and industry in the region.
