Johnson Matthey and thyssenkrupp Uhde have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly offer a fully integrated low carbon (blue) ammonia solution. This collaboration combines JM's sustainable technologies with thyssenkrupp Uhde's expertise in engineering and construction of chemical plants to produce ammonia with significantly lower CO2 emissions. The increased demand for ammonia arises from its versatility in storing and transporting hydrogen efficiently, making it essential in decarbonising power, shipping, and industrial sectors. The alliance plans to leverage existing infrastructure to facilitate the movement of low carbon ammonia, enabling the widespread adoption of hydrogen energy. By utilizing JM's LCHTM technology and thyssenkrupp Uhde's ammonia process, the production of blue ammonia with up to 99% CO2 capture becomes feasible. With projections indicating a surge in global ammonia demand, the partnership aims to address this growth by offering climate-friendly solutions.
