Mitsubishi Corporation, Takasago Thermal Engineering Co., Ltd., Hokkaido Electric Power Company, and Air Water Hokkaido Inc. have entered into a joint development agreement to explore the provision of green hydrogen in Hokkaido's Chitose area. The partners aim to contribute to carbon neutrality by utilizing hydrogen, which does not emit CO2 when burned. The Japanese government's Basic Hydrogen Strategy highlights the importance of a domestic hydrogen supply chain. Chitose City, known for New Chitose Airport and upcoming semiconductor plant, plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through local production and consumption of green hydrogen. The feasibility study for green hydrogen supply in Chitose City was approved for a subsidy, supporting the partners' goal of establishing a hydrogen cluster by 2030 and creating a green hydrogen supply chain in the broader Chitose region. The initiative reflects a positive collaboration between industry players and government entities to drive sustainable energy solutions and promote environmental goals.
