Lhyfe, a leading green and renewable hydrogen producer, has initiated large-scale green hydrogen production in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The project, established in Le Cheylas at the former Ascométal steelworks site, is part of Lhyfe's mission to decarbonize mobility and industry by producing green hydrogen locally through water electrolysis powered by renewable electricity. Initially planned to produce 2 tons per day, the plant's upgraded capacity of 4 tons per day, with a 10 MW electrolyser, positions it as the largest green hydrogen production facility in France, surpassing other Lhyfe plants. This green hydrogen will play a vital role in decarbonizing heavy transport and supporting local industries like metallurgy, microelectronics, and chemicals by replacing gray hydrogen and natural gas. Furthermore, the project, backed by the Just Transition Fund and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, received financial support totaling €6.25 million, showcasing its significance in advancing clean mobility and low-carbon industry. Lhyfe's 10-year sales contract with HYmpulsion to supply 600 tons of hydrogen annually for hydrogen stations in the Alps signifies a milestone in the region's energy transition efforts, fostering job creation and enhancing air quality. The project reflects the region's commitment to a renewable and low-carbon hydrogen economy, aligning with initiatives like Zero Emission Valley and the IMAGHyNE project.
