Linde Signs Landmark Agreement for Clean Hydrogen Supply in Canada
Key Ideas
  • Linde plc has signed a long-term agreement to supply clean hydrogen to Dow's Path2Zero Project in Canada, investing over $2 billion to construct a world-scale hydrogen facility.
  • The new on-site complex in Alberta will utilize autothermal reforming and Linde's HISORP® carbon capture technology to produce clean hydrogen, supporting Dow's net-zero emissions goals.
  • Upon completion in 2028, Linde's complex will be the largest clean hydrogen production facility in Canada, contributing to decarbonization efforts in the industrial sector and playing a key role in the clean energy transition.
  • Both Linde and Dow express enthusiasm about the partnership and the project's potential to drive sustainability, decarbonization, and growth while aligning with their long-term strategic goals.
Linde plc has made a significant move towards sustainability by signing a long-term agreement to supply clean hydrogen to Dow's Fort Saskatchewan Path2Zero Project in Canada. The company will invest more than $2 billion to build, own, and operate a world-scale integrated clean hydrogen and atmospheric gases facility in Alberta. This facility will use autothermal reforming and Linde's proprietary HISORP® carbon capture technology to produce clean hydrogen and recover hydrogen from off-gases at Dow's ethylene cracker. The project aims to support Dow's world-first net-zero emissions integrated ethylene cracker and derivatives site. Linde's complex will not only supply clean hydrogen, nitrogen, and other services to Dow but also extend its services to other industrial customers seeking to decarbonize their operations. Moreover, the facility will capture over 2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually for sequestration. Once completed in 2028, Linde's new complex in Alberta will be the largest clean hydrogen production facility in Canada and one of the largest globally. This marks Linde's largest single investment and second world-scale clean hydrogen project, following a similar initiative in the U.S. Gulf Coast. Both Linde and Dow have expressed their commitment to sustainability and decarbonization. Linde's CEO, Sanjiv Lamba, highlighted the company's role in enabling a cleaner economy and its pride in partnering with Dow on this industry-leading project. Dow's CEO, Jim Fitterling, emphasized the importance of partners like Linde in driving growth while decarbonizing assets and achieving long-term success. As a global industrial gases and engineering company, Linde is actively involved in the clean energy transition and is helping customers decarbonize their operations through advanced hydrogen technologies and a well-established hydrogen business. The company's projects span various applications and industries, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain.
