The project, located in Miri, Sarawak, is owned by PETROS Power Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of PETROS, the Sarawak-owned oil and gas company, and is supported by Sinohydro Corporation Limited. The gas turbine is designed to co-fire fuel containing up to 30% hydrogen, marking a significant advancement in power generation technology for the region. Mitsubishi Power has also secured a Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) with PETROS to ensure the stable operational performance of the plant post-commercial operation. The project aligns with Sarawak's energy transition goals towards net-zero by 2050 and its aspiration to become a high-income state by 2030 as outlined in the Sarawak Gas Roadmap.
