Norway is making significant strides in advancing ammonia bunkering infrastructure to support zero-emissions vessels along its coastline. Enova SF, a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Climate and Environment, has selected 15 projects to receive financial support for developing ammonia bunkering infrastructure from Oslofjord to Troms. The applicants include key players like Ammonia AS, Azane Fuel Solutions AS, and Boreal Sea AS, among others. These projects aim to pave the way for value chains in hydrogen and ammonia as marine fuels. Enova received more applications than anticipated, indicating a strong interest in this initiative. The selected projects are granted up to Nkr500,000 in support, with a deadline of six months to progress their development concepts towards investment decisions. Enova plans to continue its support in the next round, allowing projects to apply for investment support under the 'Bunkering facilities for ammonia' program. The agency will prioritize cost-effectiveness in selecting projects, potentially covering up to 80% of the project costs. The availability of green ammonia and hydrogen is crucial for accommodating the increasing number of alternative fuel-capable ships. Enova recently awarded substantial grants of Nkr1.22Bn for ammonia-fuelled vessels, hydrogen-powered cruise ships, and electric-powered vessels. Notable recipients include ammonia-powered platform supply vessels operated by Aurora Offshore, DOF Group, and Eidesvik Offshore. These initiatives mark a significant step towards sustainable maritime operations in Norway.
