Norwegian Hydrogen has announced an investment in a new green hydrogen production facility located in Rjukan, Telemark, Norway. This strategic development is part of the company's plan to expand its green hydrogen production activities across the Nordic region. The facility, expected to be operational by the end of 2027, will have an electrolysis capacity of 25MW, positioning it as one of the largest of its kind in the Nordic countries. There are also plans for potential future expansions to further increase its capacity. Norwegian Hydrogen is considering the start of production before the full operational readiness of the plant as it progresses. The CEO, Jens Berge, emphasized the significance of this milestone, expressing excitement about the project's prospects. The company has secured a long-term power purchase agreement with Tinn Energi and partnered with Nel for the installation of a pressurized alkaline electrolysis plant, with support from the EU Innovation Fund. Norwegian Hydrogen acquired the project from Aker Horizons and aims to utilize their foundation to offer clean hydrogen to various industrial sectors. Rjukan is envisioned to become a central hub for the green transition, supplying green hydrogen to customers in southern Norway and parts of Sweden on competitive terms. Norwegian Hydrogen has established itself as a major player in the green hydrogen sector, with existing facilities in Norway and Denmark and ongoing projects. In addition to the Rjukan facility, the company has previously disclosed plans for a significant 270MW green hydrogen production plant in Ørskog, Norway. This expansion highlights Norwegian Hydrogen's dedication to sustainable energy production and its goal to contribute to the green transition in the region.
