Nu:ionic Technologies and HybriGenix Futures Inc. have partnered to collaborate on an innovative clean power and hydrogen production facility in Alberta, Canada. The project addresses the challenges faced by the power sector in decarbonizing gas turbine power generation. By integrating Nu:ionic’s Teal Hydrogen™ technology with gas turbine solutions, the project aims to demonstrate a feasible approach for pre-combustion carbon capture, utilizing hydrogen as a fuel source. The facility, with a 100 MW capacity initially, will repurpose existing gas turbines to run on hydrogen blends, showcasing a practical solution for decarbonization while utilizing existing infrastructure. The proposed site near Edmonton, AB, will house the power generation facility and hydrogen production demonstration plant. The project will use Nu:ionic’s Nu-X Smart Reforming technology to produce high purity hydrogen for power generation, enabling a localized, low-carbon energy ecosystem. Future expansions plan to increase hydrogen production capacity and decarbonize power generation on site completely. HybriGenix aims to diversify power generation to include renewables and is in discussions for power purchase agreements and hydrogen offtake. The CEO of Nu:ionic Technologies expressed excitement about the groundbreaking project's potential to revolutionize gas turbine drivers toward a decarbonized energy future. The partnership signifies a significant step in decarbonizing small and medium-sized gas turbines, offering sustainable power generation solutions.
