Oman is moving forward with ambitious plans to develop green hydrogen projects, with a focus on collaboration with partners and end-users to accelerate construction and investment decisions. The Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salim Bin Nasser Al-Aufi, expressed optimism about starting construction works by early 2027, emphasizing the importance of offtake agreements in driving the industry forward. Hydrom has been actively engaging in auctions and signing agreements with consortiums, including international players like Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Posco, Engie, Marubeni, and EDF, among others. The country has earmarked significant land for green hydrogen projects and aims to produce millions of tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 and 2040, necessitating substantial investment in electrolyser and renewable energy capacity. The strategy also includes the development of a complete green hydrogen ecosystem, from energy production to export terminals. Oman's strong focus on infrastructure development and partnerships positions it as a key player in the global green hydrogen market, with potential future offtake agreements expected with European stakeholders and other countries.
