ORLEN's HySPARK Project: Pioneering Hydrogen Innovation in Poland
Key Ideas
- ORLEN's HySPARK project secures EUR 9 million for hydrogen vehicle production and testing in Poland, marking a significant step in the country's hydrogen innovation.
- Collaboration with 17 global partners aims to introduce hydrogen-powered vehicles for Chopin Airport and Warsaw's public transportation system, facilitating the transition towards sustainable energy.
- The Mazovian Hydrogen Valley Cluster, including 48 partners, strives to create a regional hydrogen ecosystem connecting producers, technology providers, and end-users across various sectors by utilizing hydrogen as fuel.
- ORLEN Group's ambitious plan includes building an international network of over 100 hydrogen refuelling stations by 2030, focusing on renewable energy sources and waste-to-hydrogen projects for substantial renewable hydrogen production.
The HySPARK project, led by ORLEN in collaboration with a consortium of 17 global partners, has made history by becoming the first in Poland to receive funding from the EU Clean Hydrogen Partnership program. This initiative will allocate close to EUR 9 million towards the production and testing of hydrogen-powered vehicles for Chopin Airport and Warsaw's public transportation system. The innovative vehicles, fueled by hydrogen from ORLEN's HUB in Włocławek, will include buses provided by ARTHUR BUS, trucks by Quantron, and ground handling equipment by ATENA. The project aims to pave the way for hydrogen's significant role in transportation, with plans to test ground handling vehicles at Chopin Airport and deploy hydrogen buses in Warsaw. Noteworthy collaborators such as the Mazovian Hydrogen Valley Cluster are working towards establishing a regional hydrogen ecosystem to promote sustainable energy use. ORLEN's vision extends to building a vast network of hydrogen refueling stations across Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia by 2030, emphasizing renewable energy sources and waste-to-hydrogen projects for substantial hydrogen production. The initiative reflects a positive sentiment towards hydrogen innovation and signifies a pivotal step towards decarbonization and sustainable energy practices in Poland.
