Pilot Energy, an Australian company, has received $4 million in firm commitments to support its Mid West Clean Energy project in Western Australia. The funding boost follows a significant milestone achieved by the company in the project development. Government approval was granted for an offshore carbon storage 'declaration' for the MWCEP, marking a crucial step towards carbon abatement and clean energy production in the region. This approval provides a storage capacity of 13.4 million tonnes for the Cliff Head storage formation, enabling the initial stage of the project. Executive chair Brad Lingo expressed excitement over this milestone, highlighting its importance in advancing the MWCEP and promoting carbon capture and storage initiatives in Australia. The approval de-risks the project and allows for the progression of commercial agreements, pre-front end engineering design work, stakeholder engagement, and the selection of technology partners for hydrogen and ammonia production. Pilot Energy is set to engage with regulators for further project approvals and is preparing to commence ammonia production later this year, showcasing a positive outlook for the development of clean energy projects in the country.
