H2SITE and SNAM have partnered to work on a pioneering project in Bilbao, Spain, aimed at separating hydrogen and natural gas mixtures. The project involves the development of a state-of-the-art Pd-alloy membrane separator designed to extract hydrogen at concentrations ranging from 2% to 10%. This separator, once constructed, will be the largest of its kind and will enable efficient separation of hydrogen at low concentrations with high recovery rates. The recovered hydrogen can then be utilized in fuel cells, hydrogen-to-power solutions, and high-temperature ovens while also minimizing hydrogen content in the remaining natural gas to ensure compliance with regulations and industrial processes. The collaboration between H2SITE and SNAM, with support from ARERA, not only enhances H2SITE's presence in the Italian market but also contributes to the decarbonization of the energy sector by integrating hydrogen as a clean and renewable energy source. Through this project, advanced separation solutions are paving the way for hydrogen to become a key resource in the future of sustainable energy, leveraging existing infrastructure and promoting innovative technology for energy transition.
