The Regional Energy Transition & Sustainability (RETS) Conclave held in Chandigarh featured Punjab's New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister, Mr. Aman Arora, advocating for investments in green energy. He underlined Punjab's significant potential in the sector and the state's ambition to lead in green energy production. Mr. Arora also emphasized the importance of shifting towards clean and sustainable energy practices to address environmental concerns.
During the event, Mr. Arora highlighted ongoing efforts in solar energy projects, with the commissioning of a 4MW Solar PV plant in Tarkhanawala village to cater to agricultural power needs. Plans for three additional 4MW Solar Power Plants in Bathinda district were announced, along with initiatives to utilize paddy straw in bioenergy projects to combat stubble burning.
To further promote green energy, a draft Green Hydrogen Policy has been formulated, aiming to encourage eco-friendly energy production and employment creation. Additionally, the state plans to establish 66 solar power plants with a total capacity of 264MW, expected to generate a significant amount of electricity annually.
The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) is actively supporting startups introducing innovative ideas in the green energy sector, with a focus on achieving self-sufficiency in solar energy and providing employment opportunities for the youth. The event, organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of solar energy and technological advancements in the field.
