Reliance Industries' Green Energy Push in Jamnagar
Key Ideas
  • Reliance Industries is piloting solar and battery energy projects in Jamnagar ahead of starting production of 9.6 GW modules, part of a new energy business with a USD 10 billion investment.
  • The green energy ecosystem includes integrated solar modules, battery storage, renewable energy feeding into electrolysers for green hydrogen production converted by fuel cells into electricity.
  • Strategic acquisitions worth USD 1.5 billion and agreements with Gujarat government for land acquisition showcase Reliance's commitment to the green energy value chain.
  • The company is actively participating in schemes like Production-Linked Incentives for manufacturing advanced chemistry cells, securing PLIs for ACC storage and solar modules.
Reliance Industries, under the leadership of Mukesh Ambani, has commenced pilot projects for solar and battery energy storage in Jamnagar as part of its new energy business venture. The conglomerate is set to produce 9.6 GW modules this year, investing over USD 10 billion in a massive giga complex across 5,000 acres. This green energy initiative consists of integrated solar modules, a battery storage system, and renewable energy supply linked to electrolysers for green hydrogen generation, subsequently converted into electricity using fuel cells. Reliance has strategically acquired companies totaling USD 1.5 billion and secured a significant agreement with the Gujarat government for land allocation of 74,750 hectares dedicated to green hydrogen production. Additionally, the company has obtained plots from the Deendayal Port Authority to establish facilities for producing green hydrogen and ammonia. Reliance also actively participates in government schemes like the Production-Linked Incentives, bidding for projects such as manufacturing 10 GWh Advanced Chemistry Cells. Having already secured PLIs for 5 GWh of ACC storage and solar modules, Reliance Industries is poised for a substantial role in the renewable energy sector.
