TECO 2030, in collaboration with BLOM Maritime and Samskip, has secured a grant for a pre-project to retrofit Samskip's vessel Kvitnos with hydrogen fuel cells. The innovative project targets a significant reduction in emissions from the LNG-fueled vessel, currently operating on a route from Rotterdam, Netherlands, to Hammerfest, Norway. By transitioning to zero-emission hydrogen technology, the partners aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions. The project's goal is to pave the way for an investment decision to retrofit Kvitnos with hydrogen technology and establish long-term hydrogen fuel supply contracts. Blom Maritime will provide the necessary expertise in engineering solutions for the retrofit project. Samskip, known for its commitment to sustainability, plans to achieve Net-Zero emissions by 2040, with this project playing a crucial role in reaching that target. Samskip's leadership envisions a future with zero-emission propulsion, including upcoming hydrogen-powered new-build vessels. TECO 2030's fuel cell technology is instrumental in enabling emissions-free operations for maritime applications, aligning with the industry's push towards cleaner solutions.
