In a groundbreaking move, Spain's Enagas and France's GRTgaz and Terega have reached an agreement to construct a significant hydrogen pipeline known as BarMar, connecting the two nations. This project is a key element of the broader H2MED initiative, which seeks to establish a comprehensive hydrogen transportation network throughout Europe. The BarMar pipeline, with an estimated cost of around 2.5 billion euros, is poised to play a crucial role in Europe's shift towards a low-carbon economy, with hydrogen being a central component of future energy strategies. Enagas will have a 50% stake in the project, while GRTgaz and Terega will own 33.3% and 16.7% respectively, demonstrating a strong collaborative effort. Moreover, German operator Open Grid Europe is also engaged in the H2MED project. Concurrently, Enagas and Portugal's REN have reinforced their partnership to develop a green hydrogen pipeline within the Iberian Peninsula, emphasizing the commitment to enhancing hydrogen infrastructure in the region.
