bp and Iberdrola España have initiated the construction of a 25MW green hydrogen plant in Castellón, Spain, representing the country's most extensive such facility. The Castellón Green Hydrogen project, a 50:50 joint venture between the two entities, aims to produce 2,800 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, playing a crucial role in replacing grey hydrogen utilized by the bp refinery in Castellón. By opting for green hydrogen, emissions are expected to decrease by 23,000 tonnes per year, advancing sustainability practices. The project's future phases envision expanding the utilization of green hydrogen to various industries in the Valencian community and heavy transport, contributing to industrial decarbonisation.
