Key Ideas
  • SunHydrogen progresses towards demonstrating green hydrogen panels at a commercially-relevant 1m² scale through collaborations with CTF Solar and Honda R&D.
  • Initial fabrication and testing of scalable thin-film solar cell modules are underway, ensuring durability and optimal long-term performance.
  • Development of innovative membraneless housing units by expert collaborators aims to enhance safety, reduce costs, and eliminate the use of PFAS in hydrogen panel production.
  • CEO Tim Young expresses gratitude for industrial partners' support in achieving milestones towards commercial-scale demonstration of green hydrogen technology.
SunHydrogen, based in Coralville, IA, is making significant progress in developing green hydrogen panels for pilot demonstration. The company's collaboration with CTF Solar to integrate solar cell modules into their technology has enabled faster market entry. SunHydrogen is currently working on fabricating and testing large-scale modules to be used in 1m² hydrogen panel demonstrations, emphasizing durability and long-term performance. Partnering with Honda R&D, they have achieved a 10.8% solar-to-hydrogen efficiency with their 100cm² modules in Japan. The collaboration is also focused on optimizing the performance of the panels under different hydrodynamic conditions. SunHydrogen's team, along with expert collaborators, is innovating membraneless housing units for the hydrogen panels to ensure safe hydrogen-oxygen separation without membranes, reducing costs and eliminating PFAS use. CEO Tim Young recognizes the team's dedication and expresses gratitude for the support from industrial partners in their journey towards commercial-scale demonstration of green hydrogen technology.
