Three major companies based in Tokyo, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., and IHI Corporation, have announced that they have received a subsidy for a feasibility study project in the Sakai-Senboku area of Osaka. The project, which is part of a joint study on the establishment of a hydrogen and ammonia supply chain, aims to promote the large-scale demand for hydrogen and other resources. The Consortium for Resilient Omni-energy Supply System (CROS) selected the project for the fiscal 2024 subsidy named 'Subsidy for Measures to Promote the Introduction of Non-fossil Energy (Hydrogen Supply Infrastructure Development Project).' The companies will analyze the information needed to establish ammonia supply bases that can import, store, and ship ammonia, with the goal of starting supply by FY2030. By expanding the utilization of ammonia in the Kansai and Setouchi regions, the companies seek to contribute to the decarbonization of the economic zone. This initiative not only supports the development of a supply chain for ammonia but also aims to create extensive demand areas while promoting economical and efficient development.
