TotalEnergies and Austrian utility Verbund have agreed to collaborate on a significant green hydrogen venture in Tunisia. This project, named H2 Notos, will focus on generating green hydrogen through the utilization of onshore wind and solar technologies powered by electrolyzers. The green hydrogen produced will be based on desalinated seawater and is intended for export to central Europe via a hydrogen pipeline linking north Africa to Italy, Austria, and Germany by around 2030. The TE H2 partnership between TotalEnergies and Verbund will take charge of all aspects of the project, spanning from the generation of green electricity to the production of green hydrogen. This initiative aligns with the European agenda to decrease reliance on fossil fuels and diminish the region's dependency on Russian natural gas. Additionally, TotalEnergies is actively involved in similar green hydrogen projects in various countries like Chile, Mauritania, and Australia, displaying a commitment to global expansion in the renewable energy sector.
