Transformative Partnership for Green Hydrogen Storage Certification
Key Ideas
  • Rux Energy and Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore signed a Joint Development Project agreement to validate safety enhancements in nanoporous materials for hydrogen storage.
  • Around 30 global experts from multiple countries will work on certifying large-scale hydrogen storage systems for various transport modes.
  • The project aims to facilitate the transition to green hydrogen by improving safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of storage solutions.
  • The collaboration between Rux Energy and BV will drive decarbonization efforts and promote the use of green hydrogen in heavy transport sectors.
Rux Energy and Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore have entered a Joint Development Project (JDP) agreement to validate major safety enhancements in Rux Energy's nanoporous materials for hydrogen storage. The project, involving experts from France, Australia, Singapore, and the UK, focuses on certifying large-scale hydrogen storage systems for various transportation modes. Titled “Certification of Cryogenic Pressure Vessels for Hydrogen Storage and Transport,” the initiative aims to address safety and hazard challenges related to hydrogen storage and transport, with the goal of reshaping global practices in the sector. The partnership aims to accelerate the transition to green hydrogen by emphasizing safety improvements through Rux’s advanced physisorption materials. These materials enable cost-effective and efficient green hydrogen storage solutions for ships, trucks, trains, and planes, ultimately reducing hydrogen supply chain costs and improving storage efficiency. The project also targets supporting agile refueling, bunkering, and shoreside power operations to stimulate local supply chain development in multiple countries. It represents a significant investment by both companies, with the generated knowledge intended to benefit the broader hydrogen and power-fuels community. Dr. Jehan Kanga, Founder & CEO of Rux Energy, highlighted the collaborative effort to bring Rux’s hydrogen storage solutions from bench-scale discovery to commercially viable products. Matthieu de Tugny, President of Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, expressed enthusiasm for the transformative potential of the project in enhancing hydrogen bulk storage and distribution, supporting decarbonization in heavy transport and maritime sectors. This international collaboration aims to drive decarbonization efforts, promote efficient supply chain development, and advance the use of green hydrogen in heavy transport sectors.
