Tunisia has taken substantial steps in advancing its green hydrogen production with the signing of six memoranda of understanding (MoU) with European companies. Led by key players including Tunur in partnership with Aker Horizons and Verbund, along with other entities like Savannah Energy, the country aims to produce 8.3 million tons of green hydrogen and its derivatives by 2050. Notably, €120 billion will be invested, with 2.3 million tons targeted for the local market and 6 million tons for export. Additionally, a separate agreement with ACWA Power seeks to explore the potential for a project generating up to 600,000 tons of green hydrogen annually for export to Europe. Another initiative involves the TE H2 joint venture and Verbund partnering with Tunisia to study a large-scale green hydrogen project, H2 Notos, with an initial annual production goal of 200,000 tons and plans to eventually reach one million tons.
