The UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) has completed a significant hydrogen power trial in collaboration with GeoPura to enhance its electric vehicle rollout. The trial, conducted at five key MOD locations, introduced green hydrogen-powered generators to recharge electric cars and vans using rapid chargers. This military application of hydrogen technology marks a milestone in advancing alternative energy solutions for defense operations. Air Vice-Marshal Rich Pratley highlighted the trial's success in showcasing hydrogen as a key element in transitioning to zero-emissions energy. The generators from GeoPura provided 'always on' power, facilitating rapid charging without harmful emissions and overcoming grid limitations. This initiative not only supports the MOD's sustainability goals but also ensures operational efficiency. During the trial, vehicles charged by the hydrogen-powered generators covered 120,000 miles, demonstrating the reliability and sustainability of hydrogen as an alternative power source. GeoPura plans to leverage the trial findings to advance hydrogen usage at defense sites by developing smaller, more mobile systems for shorter deployments and larger, more powerful systems to cater to diverse operational requirements both domestically and internationally.
