The Uruguayan government recently unveiled its Roadmap for Green Hydrogen and Derivatives, outlining a strategic plan to ramp up green hydrogen production. By targeting a production goal of 1 Mt/year by 2040, Uruguay plans to achieve this through a significant boost in renewable energy capacity and the installation of electrolysers. The roadmap spans three key phases, each with specific objectives to progressively advance the country's green hydrogen agenda. Noteworthy targets within the plan include installing 18 GW of renewable energy capacity and 9 GW of electrolysers, with intermediate milestones of 300 MW and 3 GW in electrolyser capacity by 2030 and 2035, respectively. Uruguay's impressive shift towards renewables, with 91% of the power mix already coming from renewable sources in 2022, provides a strong foundation for the successful implementation of this roadmap, signaling a positive outlook for the country's energy transition and sustainability efforts.
