Vale and GreenIron have entered a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to work together on decarbonisation projects in Brazil and Sweden aimed at transforming the mining and metals supply chain. The collaboration includes the development of a feasibility study for an advanced direct reduction facility in Brazil that will be managed by GreenIron. This study will assess potential sites, consider renewable energy sources, and explore the use of green hydrogen and other innovative approaches to minimize environmental impact. GreenIron's cutting-edge technology is versatile, cost-effective, and designed to integrate seamlessly with green hydrogen. In addition to the Brazil project, the partnership also involves the supply of Vale's iron ore to GreenIron's operations in Sandviken, Sweden. The expansion of GreenIron's commercial activities in Sweden, scheduled for 2025, will further showcase the benefits of their sustainable iron production methods. Rogério Nogueira from Vale highlighted the agreement's focus on leveraging Brazil's strengths in green hydrogen and GreenIron's expertise to offer eco-friendly solutions to the industry. Similarly, Edward Murray of GreenIron emphasized the commitment to reducing the sector's carbon footprint and fostering sustainable practices. By combining their knowledge and resources, the companies aim to innovate and create projects that not only drive business growth but also contribute to environmental preservation and community well-being. The partnership builds on previous successful collaborations between Vale and GreenIron, including testing iron ore pellets and the upcoming trials with iron ore briquettes, a more environmentally friendly product. Through these joint efforts, Vale and GreenIron are at the forefront of sustainable mining practices, setting a new standard for the industry.
