Western Green Energy Hub Pty Ltd Proposes Massive Expansion for Zero-Emissions Electricity Generation
Key Ideas
  • Western Green Energy Hub Pty Ltd plans to upgrade its proposed Western Green Energy (WGEH) to 70GW of zero-emissions electricity, utilizing solar and wind resources in Western Australia.
  • The project includes the development of a large-scale wind and solar energy project alongside renewable hydrogen production infrastructure over a vast area of unallocated Crown Land and pastoral leases.
  • The proposal involves the construction of up to 3000 wind turbines and around 35 solar PV farms, in addition to hydrogen and ammonia production facilities, over a 30-year period with a potential project life of up to 100 years.
  • This ambitious project aims to significantly contribute to the renewable energy landscape of Western Australia, creating opportunities for sustainable energy production and promoting environmental stewardship.
Western Green Energy Hub Pty Ltd has submitted an application to expand its Western Green Energy (WGEH) project from 50GW to 70GW of zero-emissions electricity generated from the abundant solar and wind resources in Western Australia. The proposed development will include a vast area in the far southeast of Western Australia, near Kalgoorlie and Eucla, comprising unallocated Crown Land and pastoral leases within Mirning Native Title determined land. The project will involve the installation of up to 3000 wind turbines, 35 solar PV farms, and infrastructure for hydrogen and ammonia production, such as electrolysers, substations, compressors, data centres, transmission lines, and storage facilities. This initiative is set to span over a 30-year period with a potential project life of up to 100 years, aiming to significantly boost renewable energy capacity in the region and contribute to a more sustainable future.
