The World Bank has approved $1.5 billion in loans to assist India in accelerating its low-carbon energy development. This funding aims to support the growth of a vibrant market for green hydrogen while also scaling up renewable energy and encouraging investments in low-carbon energy. The program will focus on implementing reforms to enhance the production of green hydrogen and electrolyzers, aiming to produce a minimum of 450,000 metric tonnes of green hydrogen and 1,500 MW of electrolyzers annually starting from the financial year 2025/26. Additionally, the initiative will aid in boosting renewable energy capacity and facilitating a reduction of 50 million tonnes of emissions per year. The approved financing includes a $1.46 billion loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and a $31.5 million credit from the International Development Association (IDA). This support is crucial for India's low-carbon development strategy and aligns with the country's goal of achieving net-zero emissions, all while creating employment opportunities in the clean energy sector.
