Key Ideas
  • Yara Clean Ammonia and Greenko ZeroC sign agreement to supply renewable ammonia from AM Green's Kakinada facility in India by 2027.
  • Renewable ammonia to be used for low-emission fertilizer production and decarbonizing shipping, power, and energy-intensive industries.
  • AM Green aims to ramp up capacity of its Kakinada project to produce 5 million tonnes per annum of green ammonia by 2030, equivalent to 1 million tonnes per annum of hydrogen.
  • Various partnerships and MOUs indicate India's focus on green ammonia production and collaboration in clean energy projects.
Yara Clean Ammonia, a subsidiary of Norway's Yara International, and Greenko ZeroC, part of India's AM Green, have signed a term sheet to supply renewable ammonia from AM Green's Kakinada facility in India. The agreement covers the long-term supply of up to 50% of renewable ammonia from Phase 1 of AM Green's ammonia production site, set to export ammonia by 2027. This renewable ammonia will be utilized for low-emission fertilizer production and decarbonizing shipping, power, and other energy-intensive industries. The partnership aims to propel the transformation of industries and OECD economies. AM Green plans to increase the capacity of its Kakinada project to produce 5 million tonnes per annum of green ammonia by 2030, which is equivalent to 1 million tonnes per annum of hydrogen. Yara has also been collaborating with other companies like Japan's IHI and India's ACME for marine transportation of clean ammonia and sustainable ammonia supply, respectively. Various MOUs signed in different Indian states highlight the country's efforts towards green ammonia production and sustainable energy projects.
