Masdar, SOCAR Green, and ACWA Power have entered a partnership to develop 3.5GW offshore wind projects in Azerbaijan's section of the Caspian Sea. These projects signify Azerbaijan's initial foray into offshore wind energy and are part of the country's broader strategy to embrace renewable energy sources, including green hydrogen and water desalination. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlines key milestones for the development of Azerbaijan's offshore wind sector. The collaboration between the three companies aims to bolster Azerbaijan's renewable energy portfolio, complementing existing solar power initiatives by Masdar and SOCAR Green, as well as ACWA Power's wind power plant. This venture is expected to enhance energy security, create employment opportunities, and support sustainable economic growth in line with Azerbaijan's ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The agreement reflects a commitment to clean energy and environmental stewardship for future generations. SOCAR Green, established in 2024, supports Azerbaijan's transition to renewable energy through solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects. ACWA Power, present in Azerbaijan since 2019, focuses on aiding the country in meeting renewables integration targets and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Masdar, with operations in 40 countries, aims to expand its renewable energy capacity to 100GW by 2030 and become a notable green hydrogen producer. Previous collaborations between Masdar, SOCAR, and ACWA Power in Azerbaijan have included solar and wind projects. The recent partnership underscores a significant step in Azerbaijan's journey towards a sustainable energy future, leveraging expertise to unlock the offshore wind potential of the Caspian Sea.
