The Federal Highway Administration has allocated $635 million in grants in the second round of the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Program, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. These grants will support 49 projects aimed at deploying more than 11,500 EV charging ports, along with hydrogen and natural gas fueling infrastructure, across 27 U.S. states, four federally recognized tribes, and the District of Columbia. The funding will be split with $368 million going towards 42 community projects and $268 million for 7 corridor fast charging projects along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg highlighted the historic investments made by the Biden Administration to facilitate the EV transition and ensure it is a domestically driven initiative. The goal is to establish a comprehensive network of EV chargers nationwide to simplify the charging process for electric vehicle owners. Additionally, Transportation Deputy Secretary Polly Trottenberg emphasized the job creation and economic growth resulting from the administration's efforts, with over 200,000 publicly available chargers and numerous manufacturing facilities across 40 states. The project selections in this round prioritize disadvantaged communities, aligning with President Biden's Justice40 Initiative, which aims to direct 40% of federal investment benefits to these communities. Notable projects include installing EV chargers in Jacksonville, Florida and Florida State College, Broward County's Alternative Fuel Corridors, Gainesville, and Hollywood. These initiatives are designed to enhance community infrastructure, promote sustainable transportation, and ensure equitable access to charging facilities.
